Mechanical filters
Biofilters are not designed to handle large particles. Mechanical filters in strategic areas like after a tank overflow capture and remove large particles. this lowers the biological load on the system caused by decomposition of organic matter.
Mechanical filters remove the largest solids from a system. It is important to establish the maximum flow rate so as to select the correct sized box.
